I wasn’t sure where to put this design review, so it has been sitting here a long time since I wrote it. Hopefully this is still useful. It’s possible the company has already fixed these issues in the intervening years, but I fixed my razor instead of buying a new one, so I wouldn’t know. After my razor broke, I replaced the screw tightening mechanism with an over-center latch and I’ve been pretty happy with it.

Z keyboard stand adjustments
This On Stage double-decker Z-shaped piano stand is nice, but lacking in adjustments. Guitar Center sells them for about $150, and I got mine in open-box condition while there was a sale for a bit less. Especially for the price, it feels robust and just like a good all-around surface…
Upstairs bathroom remodel
Early this year we finished remodeling our upstairs bathroom. It was really important to get this done before having a baby, so we hired contractors to do the majority of the work. The old bathroom had a full-width built-in counter in the first room and a metal tub shower with…
Door hinge stop moulding spacer
This is a simple little shim to help mount a door hinge slightly further away from the door frame stop moulding.
House project blog: closets
When we moved into our new house, we were downsizing a bit. Until we get around to finishing the basement, the finished space will be about 60% of our old house. It is nice to have less house to work on and clean, but we were anxious about storage space…
House project blog: really good contractors
This project was huge, and it required so much work that there was no way I could have gotten it done myself. We hired a general contractor to demolish the ceiling, build the new wall, and redo the electrical wiring in the kitchen, while I focused on removing the existing…
Door handle wall bumper
I was looking around our house for things to fix, and I saw a lot of places where there was a small hole in the drywall caused by a door handle. I was going to patch all of these with drywall, but I knew it would eventually happen again, even…
Player piano preventive maintenance
We have a Yamaha player piano that I have been using off and on for around 15 years. It needed some work to maintain the hammers and make sure it can record correctly.
Replacing headphone cable with port
I was getting tired of soldering new a new cable on my headphones every few months, so I replaced the cable with a female 3.5mm headphone jack on the headphones. This is a cheap and easy improvement to any pair of wired headphones.
Car headrest for office chair
My office chair was pretty nice with a spot for a headrest to attach, but mine came without the headrest accessory. I decided it was worth a bit of effort, so I cobbled one together.
